At this past weekend’s Monkey Bonspiel at the Kitchener-Waterloo Granite Curling Club, the Kate Martin rink from Elmira – representing Switzerland – with Kate at skip, Veronica at third, Kyle at second and Cameron at lead – finished in first place out of a field of 12 teams. In their first game, Kate’s rink defeated a rink from the K-W Granite representing the US, and followed that with a 6-3 win over the Dutch entry from Elmira, skipped by Anika. <\/p>\n

Both teams played tremendously well, with Anika having the shot of the day. In the 4th end against Kate’s Swiss foursome, Anika drew through a small port to reach the top four-foot to score a critical two points to keep her rink in the game, though still down 5-2. In the end, however, Anika’s rink was unable to overcome that deficit, with the teams trading singles in the 5th and 6th ends for a 6-3 final. <\/p>\n
