Elmira bantam girls advance to OCA Regionals

Congratulations to the Deanna Johnson rink of Elmira for winning the “B” side of the OCA Bantam Girls zone 12 championships held last weekend at the Westmount Golf and Country Club.

Deanna and her Elmira rink of third Laura Daniel, second Jaime Jones, lead Emily Walsh and coaches Bob Johnson and Steve Jones were upset in the “A” side final Saturday evening by the Sarah Pellegrino rink from the Galt Curling Club, comprising Sarah at skip, Jackie Jones at third, Candice Donahue at second, Veronica Reitmeier at lead, and coached by Sheila Smith-Jones. The following day, Deanna’s rink went into the “B” side final with something to prove and defeated the Molly Greenwood rink from K-W Granite 9-1 in five ends to gain the other berth to the OCA Bantam girls’ regionals that will be held in Chesley (south-east of Port Elgin) next weekend, January 22nd and 23rd.

Congratulations to both of these zone winners! Both rinks have a strong Elmira connection: Bob and Deanna Johnson, Steve Jones, and Sheila Smith-Jones are former coaches at Elmira, and Deanna, Jamie Jones and Jackie Jones are all former Elmira Little Rockers.

Good luck at Regionals, girls!
