TSN broadcasts Continental Cup play

Starting tomorrow morning at 10:30, TSN will broadcast a variety of games from the Continental Cup being held in St. Albert, Alberta through Sunday afternoon. The complete TSN broadcast schedule can be found here.

I am particularly looking forward to the mixed doubles event which will be televised on Thursday and Friday afternoons at 3:30, where we will have an opportunity to watch Olympic champion Kevin Martin race down the sheet to sweep his own stones – with a slider on! (Not recommended for Little Rockers!)

  1. Speaking of sweeping your own stones, here is a quote from Shawn Rojeski of the US, who yesterday was partnered with Canada’s Susan O’Connor in mixed doubles, about what occurred at the Worlds Mixed Doubles event last year:

In a format likes this, a fun event, everybody who has played it likes it. But I know at the World Mixed two people fell down and injured themselves running out to sweep. I think that has to be taken into consideration.

Sweeping a stone with your slider on can be very dangerous, as Rojeski attests, particularly if the one sweeping is the thrower who has to race down the ice to catch up to his or her stone.
