  1. I have a question. At times when Jon Mead is throwing does his broom touch his rock on delivery? It looks close to me.

    1. Thanks for your question, Bev, and it’s a great question.

There were a number of rule changes to curling enacted before the start of season. In particular, Rule 9 (Touched Moving Stones) was rewritten, and eliminated the rule that prevented one from re-touching a stone during delivery, before the stone reaches the near hog line.

I think your question raises a point about the newly-worded Touched Moving Stones rule. I honestly cannot determine from the current 2010-2011 rules if touching a stone with a piece of equipment (Jon Mead’s straw broom) during the delivery is permitted or not. Perhaps another reader might want to volunteer with an interpretation. However, I believe the intent of Rule 9 is that “touching a moving stone” applies only once the stone has been released, and not beforehand.
