Martin rink finishes in first place at Monkey Bonspiel

At this past weekend’s Monkey Bonspiel at the Kitchener-Waterloo Granite Curling Club, the Kate Martin rink from Elmira – representing Switzerland – with Kate at skip, Veronica at third, Kyle at second and Cameron at lead – finished in first place out of a field of 12 teams. In their first game, Kate’s rink defeated a rink from the K-W Granite representing the US, and followed that with a 6-3 win over the Dutch entry from Elmira, skipped by Anika.

Both teams played tremendously well, with Anika having the shot of the day. In the 4th end against Kate’s Swiss foursome, Anika drew through a small port to reach the top four-foot to score a critical two points to keep her rink in the game, though still down 5-2. In the end, however, Anika’s rink was unable to overcome that deficit, with the teams trading singles in the 5th and 6th ends for a 6-3 final.

Congratulations to both rinks for their strong play!
