Curling on CBC for 2011-2012

As they did last year, CBC Sports is broadcasting selected Grand Slam tournament semi-finals and finals during the 2011-2012 season. Their published broadcast schedule includes the following:

  • On December 17-18, CBC will broadcast the quarter-, semi- and finals of the 2011 BDO Canadian Open, live from the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ontario.

The main CBC network has the quarter-finals at 2:00pm Saturday, and the finals Sunday at 1:00pm. CBC Bold carries the Saturday evening semi-finals, to be broadcast at 7:00pm (all times Eastern).

  • On Saturday, January 28 2012 and Sunday, January 29, the main CBC network will carry the quarter-finals and finals of the Swiss Chalet National from Dawson Creek, BC.

Game times are 2:00pm Saturday for the quarter-final, and 12-noon Sunday for the final (all times Eastern).

CBC warns that the schedule is subject to change, so check the online CBC schedule for games and times.

  1. I am very disappointed at the poor coverage of the men’s curling in the Swiss Chalet spiel at Dawson Creek , B.C. this weekend and on other occasions as well – curling is Canada’s game along with hockey and we never miss watching – the curling especially. My grandaughter and other young people are competing at noon Saturday in Dawson Creek and we were hoping to see these junior curlers try to hit the 4 foot and the closest one wins a curling outfit – I guess we will not be seeing any of it, until the 2pm-quarter finals. I can’t believe there is such poor coverage by the CBC on tv of this event . Why don’t you sell the tv rights if you aren’t going to broadcast all the games and other interesting events planned to encourage our young people to have an interest in curling and sport, and keeping all of us up to date on our men’s teams and their acconplishments. WE WANT TO WATCH THE GAMES ON TV THAT OUR CANADIAN MEN AND WOMEN CURLERS ARE PLAYING.

  2. Wondering what the problem is for televising the Gran Slam of
Curling. Have been looking forward to this for weeks and today there is nothing on the television guide to show that we will be seeing it. I also went to CBC schedule and it said that there is nothing scheduled. Thank you

    1. This week, as reported by various people on Twitter, CBC pulled out of curling coverage of the pro Tour altogether. ISport Productions, who produce Tour events, is in negotiation with Sportsnet for the Rogers Sportsnet network to pick up the remaining games, however that has not yet been finalized to my knowledge.

CBC is now in the position of having no curling coverage for the first time since 1962.
