Two recent Little Rock bonspiels to report on:
On Saturday, December 3, at the Club at North Halton in Georgetown, two Elmira teams participated in the annual North Halton Little Rock Bonspiel. Both Elmira teams played extremely well and finished in second and third place behind a very good rink from the Burlington Curling Club.
Finishing second was Tony Domzella’s rink, consisting of Tony Domzella at skip, Nathan Wells at third, Kyle Henry at 2nd and Olivia Ronson at lead. Tony’s rink tied their first game but lost the draw-to-the-button tiebreaker, resulting in their playing the 4th-place team in their second game.
Finishing third was Sam Domaratzki’s rink, consisting of Sam Domaratzki at skip, Thomas Kraemer at 3rd, Cameron Olmsted at 2nd, and Linden Jorna at lead stones. The boys won their first game in convincing fashion, but lost their second game in a close match with the eventual winners from Burlington.
The following weekend, on Saturday December 10, Sam Domaratzki was skipping the Elmira entry at the first annual Milton Little Rock Bonspiel at the Milton Curling Club. Sam, along with brother Riley, Nathan Wells, and Connor Stone played two fabulous games, winning them both with some super shot-making (particularly in the first two ends of their first game) but finishing with just slightly fewer points than the winning rink.
While both Sam and Nathan have had previous bonspiel experience, this was the first bonspiel for Connor and Riley, and moreover Connor is a rookie at Little Rock curling. These two boys played superbly and demonstrated some excellent skills despite their inexperience.
All three teams represented Elmira exceedingly well and I look forward to reporting on similar results in forthcoming events. Congratulations to all the players!
