Nutrition tips for pre- and post-game snacks

One thing appreciated by all of the coaches at the 2012 TimBits Provincial Curling Championships being held in Parry Sound this weekend is the quality of the post-game snacks offered to all the teams. Snacks have included fresh fruit, particularly bananas, apples, and oranges, along with granola bars and, for those with a sweet tooth, some homemade chocolate chip cookies.

A recent article in the Coaching Nutrition column of the Coaches Association of Canada website lists some excellent snack alternatives for kids that includes those types of healthy snacks, particularly fruit and whole grains. The snacks are appropriate for all ages and all types of activities, not just curling – keep that list handy this summer when your child is playing soccer, lacrosse, or when on a hike.
