Team Bernard wins silver at Timbits Provincials

Congratulations to the Veronica Bernard rink from the Elmira and District Curling Club, who along with Elmira teammates Thomas Kraemer, Kyle Henry, and Matthew Kraemer won the silver medal at the 2014 OCA Tim Hortons Timbits Elementary School Championships held in Gravenhurst this past weekend, representing St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School in Elmira.

Finishing round-robin play with a 3-1 record within their pool, Team Bernard earned a spot in the playoffs on a tiebraker. They then proceeded to win their next three games to find themselves in the Championship final against the Maddie Fisher rink from McDougall Elementary Public School in Parry Sound.

The final was a close game, with the Elmira foursome with the lead in the sixth end after Veronica made a crucial raise against five in the fifth. Fisher drew for one in six, knotting the game and setting the stage for an extra end which came down to last stone, with Veronica’s final rock rolling just a few inches too far and giving up the steal of one to the McDougall foursome for the win.

We are immensely proud of this team, who not only exceeded all expectations for the Championships but were universally credited amongst the other teams, coaches and spectators for their fine example of good play and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Well done!
