The 2015 Elmira Junior Bonspiel was held on February 7 and everyone enjoyed a great day of curling. My thanks to Kevin Garrett of PKG Photography for supplying the photography, Rob Shaw for doing the ice, assistants Jen and Marc Bernard, Andrew Paulley, and Veronica Bernard, and the food committee, led by Elmira member Noreen Michels, who prepared the wonderful lunch for all of the athletes.
Little Rock Draw
Six teams competed in the Little Rock draw, with 3 teams from Elmira and one each from K-W Granite, Acton, and Palmerston curling clubs. The winning rink was skipped by Ben Alpaugh of the K-W Granite Club in Waterloo, with Alistair Barfoot at third, Ainsley Sills at second, and Adrian Barfoot at lead, and earned the right to have their names engraved on the Norm Clement Trophy:
Bantam Draw
The bantam draw featured eight entries, with teams from K-W Granite, Elmira, Elora, Listowel, Milton, Uxbridge and Orangeville divided into two pools of four. The teams who emerged as pool winners were the Josh Leung mixed foursome from Uxbridge, and the Breanne Donegan rink from Listowel. The young crew from Uxbridge just edged out the Donegan foursome in total points, and this team of Josh Leung at skip, Rachel Steele at third, twin brother Nathan Steele at second, and Samantha Maki at lead will have their names engraved on the Ted Starling Trophy that resides at the club.
Congratulations to all of the participants, and we hope to see all of you at forthcoming bonspiels during the remainder of this curling season.
