The latest version of the OnForm video analysis application, just released this week (March 18, 2024) on Apple devices now supports simultaneous multi-camera video recording from multiple devices (up to 3) on the same WIFI network. For curling coaches, being able to record simultaneous camera input of a curling delivery – for example, using a camera located behind the hack, and another in front of the athlete) can be exceedingly helpful. Other commercial applications support this functionality; Curling Canada demonstrated the use of the Switcher Studio application at the high-performance coaching summit in Edmonton in August, using three Apple iOS devices: one behind the hack, another at the side, and a third mounted on top of a sawhorse in front of the athlete.
If you already use OnForm with a coaches’ license, you know the value to being able to not only record video but also annotate the video with markup or with voice-over:
The disadvantage of the Switcher Studio solution for multi-camera video is that it is expensive, an additional monthly cost to the OnForm app, and then a cumbersome copy and import into OnForm in order to do annotations. This new feature of OnForm means that one can do the annotations immediately after multi-camera video capture, and without a separate piece of software. I have tried this new feature, using two-camera input only, on my existing Apple devices (iPad Pro, iPad, and iPhone 13) and it works well; the resulting display is a split-screen of the two inputs. I can’t wait to try out this new system at the next Ontario Curling Council Academy Team camp at Dundas Valley Golf and Country Club on April 13-14. With regret, I cannot comment on the functionality of the OnForm solution on Android platforms as I do not have any Android devices.
OnForm’s product managers indicate that the multi-camera feature will require an enhanced license (read: more expensive) in the fall, but have pushed the functionality out to the entire user base now to get feedback on the feature.
