Tomorrow is our first of two “Open Houses” for Junior Curling at Elmira.
Returning curlers will appreciate the new extensive work that at the club that occurred in August to replace all of the pipes underneath the artificial ice surface. This took weeks of effort by club volunteers – particularly Laverne Brubacher and Steve Jones – and the co-operation of several businesses and local farmers in Elmira and St. Jacobs.
The ice at Elmira this year is considerably faster – keener – than last year, with (in my opinion) more consistent curl and much less frost. This will make it much easier for the Little Rockers, in particular, to throw both draw and take-out shots.
The new ice surface is about two inches lower than previously, and this height difference has rendered the junior hack on sheet 1 inoperative until I can make some adjustments to it, which I hope to do this coming week.
Remember our changes to starting times for this year:
- Little Rocks open house: 1:30pm – 3:00pm.
- Bantams and Juniors open house: 3:00pm – 4:30pm.
For returning curlers, we’ll be treating open house as a regular practice with an emphasis on balance drills. For new curlers, we’ll introduce them to the sport and teach the basic steps of the curling delivery.
See you on the ice!
