Thanks to the generous contributions from Elmira and District Curling Club members, and to John Moseley-Williams of McDonald’s Restaurants, our new engraved Lite Rock stone handles arrived recently from Canada Curling Stone.
Each stone now features a name selected by a donor, and on the opposite side has the McDonald’s Restaurant logo.
In my own case, my stone features the name of my mother-in-law, Betty Cornwell of Winnipeg, a long-time curler who finally had to retire from the game as she will reach the young age of 86 next month.
At an earlier practice in February, we took the opportunity to have a brief ceremony where some of the children who have their names engraved on the new handles could replace the generic handles with their own, engraved ones. Elmira now has Lite Rock stones for all four sheets of ice.
The individuals who each contributed towards the purchase of these stones were:
- Ken Salem and Jo Atlee;
- June and Derek Pass;
- Melody and Larry Martin;
- John Kendall;
- Dirk and Lisa Molenaar;
- Colleen and Scott Coghlin;
- Laurie and Geoff Martin;
- Ed Starling;
- Joe and Becky Blake;
- Jody Soehner;
- Rich and Clara Bean; and
- Glenn Paulley and Leslie Cornwell.
