Junior curling at Elmira begins Sunday, October 22

Junior curling resumes at Elmira on Sunday, 22 October 2017. On October 22 both Little Rock and U15/U18/U21 groups return to the ice as usual over the two sessions, 1:30pm for Little Rock and 3:00 pm for U15/U18/U21.

In addition to weekly practices and occasional competitive events, U15/U18 players are welcome to participate in U18 Interclub, a loose consortium of junior programs at various curling clubs designed to provide development opportunities to younger, more inexperienced players. U18 Interclub includes Acton, Elmira, Elora, Palmerston, Orangeville, Fergus, KW Granite, Westmount, and Alliston curling clubs.

At Elmira we plan to host two youth events: our annual OJCT U18 cash bonspiel on February 2-4, and a coachable U15 bonspiel on Saturday, October 28. The men’s draw of our OJCT bonspiel has been full since mid-June and the women’s draw has only one spot remaining. As our U18 cash spiel is one of the last events prior to U18 qualifiers, it remains a very popular event on the OJCT curling tour. Registration forms for our U15 event will be available shortly.

Registration

Once again this year we are utilizing online registration of youth curlers via our club’s website. Online registration is now open and payment can be made securely online via Visa or Mastercard. Registration continues to be $100 for the season. In addition to the online portion of your child’s registration, I would appreciate it if you would fill out both of the following forms:

While our overall numbers continue to remain high, we still have additional room for more youth curlers and we encourage members to pass on this message over the next few weeks. With our increase of numbers, particularly on the U15/U18 side, we are looking for additional coaching assistance each Sunday afternoon. While Elmira members with formal OCA coaching credentials would be ideal, we would welcome assistance from anyone with a solid understanding of the game who is interested in working with some our outstanding junior players to improve their skills.
